It's a Girl Thing

Encouragement for the New Semester

Hi friends! I hope you all have had a fabulous summer; how has it flown by so quickly?? I’ve learned so much through my summer experiences, and I’m excited to share more with you in coming posts. But today, I’m not talking about the past couple months. I’m talking about upcoming months. Yeah…the Fall semester.

Last week, when one of my close friends started her senior year of high school, I wanted to encourage her in a special way–like she often does for me. So, I grabbed a piece of paper and searched for verses that would help her in the new year. It was so special sending a note with those verses to her the next day, and I want to share some of the same things with you.

Whether you’ve already started the new semester, or you’re getting ready to, I want to remind you of these important truths and Scripture passages–ones you can run to in the mundane, and in the chaotic or confusing times. Let’s jump in. 🙂

Truth #1: You must prioritize your relationship with God in order to thrive.

Even if it’s just a few verses a day–5 minutes of prayer in the morning–you need time alone with Jesus every day. Of course, we may fall short in consistent devotions or fail to prioritize Him at times, but He will help us keep Him first if we ask Him to! Let these verses encourage you to pursue Him daily.

  • Hebrews 4:12
  • Matthew 4:4
  • Psalm 1:2
  • Psalm 21:6
Truth #2: You need good friends in order to thrive.

This can be such a sensitive and difficult truth, especially if it means distancing ourselves from close friends. But please hear me out: You NEED to avoid the wrong crowds. Surround yourself with friends who will truthfully encourage you and draw you closer to Christ. Remember these verses when choosing your friends at school, work, or even church:

  • 1 Corinthians 15:33
  • Proverbs 13:20
  • Proverbs 18:24
  • James 4:4
Truth #3: Diligence pays off!

School gets messy as the semester wears on, and it’s easy to lose motivation. Easy to complain, and dread each day of classes. If you struggle with motivation (I. Get. You.), turn to these verses–God promises that your diligence will pay off!

  • Galatians 6:9
  • 2 Thessalonians 3:10
  • Proverbs 13:4
Truth #4: Wisdom is priceless, yet FREE.

Embrace it! In every day, every class, every circumstance–ask God for wisdom. He will give it to you in abundance.

  • James 1:5
  • Proverbs 8
  • Proverbs 4:6-7
Truth #5: You can’t thrive on doubt.

We all have doubts, but I think the stress of school especially draws out that human weakness. We doubt our grades, or worthiness, our relationships, ourselves…sometimes, even God. And friend, that doubt is venomous. Don’t let Satan’s voice of uncertainty have victory over you. Run to these verses when question marks creep into your heart…

  • Psalm 22:4-5
  • Proverbs 3:5-6
  • Isaiah 4:18-19
Truth #6: Jesus’ strength is sufficient!

Jesus wants us to surrender our weaknesses and shortcomings to Him. When we are feeble, overwhelmed, and helpless, He is waiting for us to run to Him. He will engulf us in His power and build us up in His love if we ask Him to. Claim His strength for your daily tasks and ask Him to help you when you feel like quitting. He wants to do this year with you. He will lift you up.

  • 2 Corinthians 12:9-10
  • Matthew 11:28
  • Psalm 40:2
  • Isaiah 43:2-3

That’s all I have!

I hope you’ll keep these passages close as you dive into the new semester. For easy access to all the verses in this post, I created a free printable for you! Don’t let those truths slip your memory. 🙂

I’d love to hear from you!

Have you started school yet? What are some things that get you through each year?

P.S. For this post, I did add several verses to the mix I originally sent to Bren.
