It’s happy place time! The warmth and sunshine has been ENDLESS this week! (a rare occurrence in NYC;) )
As I sip my fizzy drink and watch the adorable chickadees hop around outside my window, it’s pretty hard for me to imagine life getting any better. 😉 And even harder for me to imagine a cold season ahead.
Sometimes we get so caught up in the bliss of summery days that we forget to thank our Creator for those times of ease. And when that happens, winter (or trials) is even more difficult because we’ve temporarily lost sight of God.
So, how can we avoid taking life’s pleasant seasons for granted? Avoid forgetting God in those times?
Here are three simple ways:
1) Constantly thank God for the seasons of joy that He gives.
We ought to make His blessings known, for our thankfulness is a testimony to the world.
1 Chronicles 16:8 says, “Oh give thanks to the Lord; call upon his name; make known his deeds among the peoples!” (ESV).
2) Don’t stop spending time with Him.
I think people tend to forget that the hardest time to run to Jesus is during the good times of life. I know that when things are going well for me, I tend to slack in my time with God—or forget about it all together. We can’t forget about Him. Ever.
Ask Him to give you the diligence to stay in the Word and to delight in it at all times.
“but his delight is in the law of the Lord, and on his law he meditates day and night” (Psalm 1:2, ESV).
3) Keep a journal!
What better way to fully enjoy the good seasons than to store the memories away for later? Slowing down to reflect on and write about God’s goodness through each day always helps me maintain a grateful heart. When the tough times come, I can always look back and be reminded of His faithful blessings.
